Eco Council visit to Westonbirt Arboretum

Our Eco Council members visited Westonbirt Arboretum to see how the Silk Wood Community Planting project was progressing.

In February 2024, a coachload of 50 Cam Everlands pupils visited Westonbirt Arboretum to help plant new trees as part of their Silk Wood Community Planting Project. This was started to replace trees which had been lost to ash die-back. In total, the children managed to plant 145 trees during the day.

Almost a year later, our class Eco Councillors, who had been democratically elected by their classmates, visited the project to see how the saplings planted the year before were doing as well as planting more.

Throughout the day, the children we busy looking at how the project was developing along with planting even more saplings. They managed to plant 50 in the time they had meaning that there are nearly 200 young trees at Westonbirt which have been planted by Cam Everlands pupils, past and present.

The day was a great success for all and the children gained a lot from being part of a project which will help to repair the environment at Westonbirt. Once again Meg - the liaison from Westonbirt -  was blown away by how great our children were, just as she was last year!

Mme Brunet and Mrs Western took the children on this outing and we must pass on our thanks to Mme Brunet for organising the trip and supporting the children throughout the day.
