Computing
Introduction
At Cam Everlands Primary School, our computing curriculum is designed to empower our pupils to thrive in the digital world. Aligned with our school's vision of "we believe, achieve and celebrate", our computing curriculum will equip our pupils with the knowledge, skills and values needed to become confident, responsible, and creative users of technology.
Key Aims
Our computing curriculum aims to:
- Develop pupils' understanding of the fundamental principles of computer science, including algorithms, programming, and how digital systems work
- Enable pupils to apply their computing knowledge and skills to solve problems, create innovative digital content, and express themselves
- Foster pupils' computational thinking skills, including logical reasoning, problem-solving, and attention to detail
- Encourage pupils to use technology safely, responsibly, and ethically, in line with our school's values of respect, trust, honesty, and empathy
Content and Skills
Our computing curriculum covers a broad range of topics, including:
- Computer science: Algorithms, programming, and how digital systems work
- Information technology: Using a variety of software and hardware to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content
- Digital literacy: Understanding the importance of using technology safely, respectfully, and responsibly
Throughout their time at Cam Everlands, pupils will develop essential skills such as coding, data handling, digital design, and online safety. They will learn to apply their computing knowledge to a wide range of subjects, strengthening their ability to think critically and solve problems.
Progression
Our computing curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure progressive learning and skill development. In Key Stage 1, pupils will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of computer science, digital literacy, and information technology through hands-on, engaging activities. As they move into Key Stage 2, pupils will build upon this foundation, developing more advanced programming skills, data analysis techniques, and a deeper understanding of how technology shapes the world around them.
Wider Impact
By providing our pupils with a high-quality computing education, we aim to prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of the digital age. Our computing curriculum will not only develop their technical skills but also foster their creativity, critical thinking, and collaborative abilities - qualities that are essential for success in the 21st century. Ultimately, our computing curriculum will empower our pupils to become confident, responsible, and adaptable digital citizens, ready to make a positive impact in their future studies and careers.
