Forest School

Forest School is an outdoor learning approach that gives children regular opportunities to explore, play, and learn in a natural environment. Sessions usually take place in woodland or green spaces and are led by trained adults who support children to take safe risks, work together, and develop practical skills through hands-on experiences. Forest School helps children develop a positive connection with nature while supporting their wellbeing, confidence, and enjoyment of learning.

Forest School provides a break from the traditional classroom and allows children to learn in a relaxed and engaging setting. Activities may include building dens, exploring nature, using simple tools, creating natural art, or working together on small projects. These experiences encourage curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving.

Forest School has many benefits for children’s mental health and wellbeing. Spending time outdoors can help reduce stress and anxiety while improving mood and concentration. The natural environment provides a calming space where children can feel more relaxed and confident to try new things.

Forest School supports emotional development by helping children build resilience, independence, and self-esteem. Working collaboratively in outdoor activities encourages communication and teamwork, strengthening friendships and social skills.
