Celebration Days and Events
Celebration days and events in primary schools, such as cultural festivals, achievement assemblies, book weeks, or themed awareness days, offer children unique opportunities to come together, have fun, and feel part of a wider community. These events break the usual routine, creating excitement, anticipation, and a sense of occasion that makes school life more engaging and enjoyable.
Participation in celebrations supports children’s mental health and wellbeing by fostering a sense of belonging. Being part of a collective experience helps children feel valued and connected to their peers and school community, which can reduce feelings of isolation or anxiety. Celebration days also boost self-esteem and confidence, as children may take part in performances, presentations, or competitions, giving them opportunities to showcase their skills and achievements.
These events encourage social interaction and teamwork, helping children develop communication, cooperation, and empathy. They also provide a platform for creativity, self-expression, and fun, which can reduce stress and promote positive emotions. For children who may struggle academically or socially, celebration days offer an inclusive space to succeed and feel proud. Some of the recent, and upcoming, events include
- Sports Day
- Walk to Cam Peak
- World Book Day
- Wellbeing Day (this is where children sign up to a selection of wellbeing activities to try throughout the day)
- Bouncy Castle Day
- Hindu Day
- Year 6 Leaver's Assembly and Celebration Evening
