SEND Support Teaching Assistant

About the Role

This Fixed Term (until 31/08/2026) SEND support Teaching Assistant position is based in Key Stage 1, working Tuesday to Friday from 8:45am to 12:00pm. The role offers a salary between Grade 3 and Grade 5 depending on qualifications.

You will work closely alongside class teachers to provide targeted support, particularly in phonics, reading, writing, and mathematics. Your role will be vital in delivering small group and one-to-one interventions that help pupils overcome barriers and build confidence. You will also assist with guided reading and writing sessions, support behaviour management, and contribute to a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere.

Your contributions will directly impact pupils’ learning and well-being as you help implement our curriculum priorities and support individual needs, including awareness of neurodiversity and specific learning difficulties.


About You

We are looking for a compassionate and committed Teaching Assistant who:

  • Understands safeguarding responsibilities and promotes pupil well-being at all times
  • Has experience supporting pupils in KS1 and a strong understanding of phonics and the National Curriculum expectations
  • Demonstrate an excellent knowledge and understanding of the needs of KS1 children and how to effectively support their learning and promote their well being
  • Show awareness of Neurodiversity such as Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and learning difficulties such as dyslexia
  • Is proactive, energetic, and flexible, ready to engage with pupils enthusiastically and creatively
  • Builds positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families, fostering trust and respect
  • Demonstrates patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to the needs of vulnerable or diverse learners
  • Works collaboratively and communicates effectively with teachers and colleagues
  • Has a willingness to learn and develop professionally, open to feedback and new approaches

 

Experience or knowledge of supporting phonics, continuous provision, and neurodiversity is highly desirable, however we welcome applications from candidates eager to grow in these areas.
