Nurture Rooms

Nurture Rooms are safe, supportive spaces within primary schools where children can receive targeted emotional and social support. They are designed to help pupils who may be struggling with anxiety, low confidence, social difficulties, or challenges at home that affect their learning and wellbeing.

Sessions in a Nurture Room are typically small-group or individual, led by staff who provide a calm, structured environment. Activities often include discussion, creative tasks, role-play, and games that help children explore their feelings, develop coping strategies, and practise social skills. The focus is on building positive relationships and a sense of belonging, which can significantly improve children’s emotional wellbeing.

Nurture Rooms benefit mental health by providing children with a space where they feel heard, supported, and understood. Regular engagement can reduce stress and anxiety, improve self-esteem, and help children manage their emotions more effectively. Children also learn practical strategies for resolving conflicts, communicating their needs, and building friendships.

By offering consistent, nurturing support, children feel more confident and ready to engage with learning and school life. They provide an essential foundation for emotional resilience, helping children thrive both academically and personally.
