Reception Class September 2025
If your child is joining our Reception Class this September, please find information regarding transition events and dates below.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Key dates for your diary
Wednesday 4h June 6pm to 7pm Parents Welcome Evening
This is an opportunity for parents and carers to come and meet the Head Teacher and Reception Team. You will receive a ‘Starting School’ pack which will contain lots of information and advice. You will also have the opportunity to visit our Reception Classroom.
Friday 20th June 5pm ‘Everfest’ - School fair
An informal opportunity to visit the school and have a little fun!
Thursday 26th June 1:30pm to 2:30pm Picnic on the field
This relaxed session will be held on the school field and is a great opportunity for the children from different settings to meet for the first time. You are welcome to bring a picnic and a blanket along to enjoy the sunshine. This is also a great opportunity for parents to get to know each other and perhaps arrange some playdates for the summer.
Monday 30th June to Thursday 3rd July Home visits
We offer all families the chance to speak to us in confidence and strongly encourage you to arrange a visit (bookable at the Parent’s Welcome Evening). This is a great opportunity for you to chat with your child’s teacher about any worries – no matter how big or small. Children will also receive their first school reading bag.
Week commencing 7th July Preschool visits
We endeavour to meet all children again in their pre-school setting. This helps to build familiarity and gives the opportunity for us to chat with their key workers. We will contact settings directly to arrange this.
Starting School in September
We recognise that many children have busy days with their pre-school settings and child minders. In these settings, the children will have a maximum ratio of 1:8, which provides cosy security with a well-known trusted adult.
Starting school is a big step. Children have a new building to negotiate, new adults to build relationships with, new rules to remember and lots of new children to get to know. This is exhausting for young children! Therefore, we have a gradual, 'soft start' approach, details of which are shown below.
Week 1 - Tuesday 2nd Sept to Friday 5th Sept
Group A (Children with September, November, December, January, March, May and August birthdays)
8:45am – 11:00am
Children can access Breakfast Club
Group B (Children with October, February, April, June and July birthdays)
1:00pm – 3:15pm
Children can access Everlanders After School Club
Weeks 2 and 3 - Monday 8th Sept to Friday 19th Sept
All children in school
8:45am - 11:45am
Children can access Breakfast Club
During these two weeks your child will be invited to stay for one afternoon of baking fun. This event will be precooked at the Parents Welcome Evening listed above. Your child will also complete their Reception Baseline Assessment in this session.
Week 4 Monday 22nd Sept onwards
All children are now full-time
School day begins at 8:50am (gates open at 8:40am)
School day ends at 3:15pm (gates open at 3:10pm)
Children can access Breakfast Club and Everlanders
Children with SEND needs may require an extension of the part-time timetable and we may recommend this as part of their transition into full-time school.
